On a sunny day in March of 2004, I
was bored at home with nothing to do, so I called my best girl friend
Kristin and we decided to take a trip to beautiful Key West
that afternoon. Taking the scenic route, we drove down US-1 at a slow
pace to take in all the sights and sounds of our beautiful route. When
we finally arrived, the choices and amenities surrounding us were almost
too good to be true. Shops, restaurants, and deserted beaches were all
around, which to choose from first?
We started our adventure by checking
into a quaint bed and breakfast. Boasting as one of the first inns on
the island, we shared a room with sweeping views of the ocean and a
tranquil tropical setting. Dinner was served promptly at 6pm, with a
beautiful spread of island food cooked at its best. After dinner we took
a stroll down Duval Street, all the way down to Mallory Square for the
Sunset events that take place every evening. Street performers,
musicians, flame throwers, dancers, trinket vendors- you name it, it was
there. After the sun set, we embarked on a guided ghost tour of the
cemetery and local “haunted” venues- what a scare! After this, we
decided to stop in a few local pubs with excellent local character for a
couple signature cocktails and appetizers to begin our long night out
on the town.
By the time the weekend was over, we were more than convinced that Key West, Fl is the best vacation spot in the country!
