I’m not much of a traveler, but amusement parks are the exception to that rule. The best park I’ve ever been to was Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey,
back when school trips were the only way I could get anywhere. Being a
school trip, I had to go with a group, but surrounded by 9 friends, that
park became our playground. A haunted house, a kiddie roller coaster
(because we were the kind of kids who thought we were funny doing things
we were too old for), and then the first roller coaster ride in my
life. What a rush. The first roller coaster I ever rode was the Bizzaro,
a superman themed coaster with hot air jets, insane turns, and
face-battering wind speeds. It was honestly the biggest adrenaline rush
I’ve ever felt in my life, and it got me completely and totally hooked
on roller coasters.
It’s funny the things peer pressure can
do, in a good way. I spent the whole trip to the park stressing over how
much I wanted to stay away from coasters, just check out the souvenir
shops while my friends rode. Then they got me to follow them to Bizzaro.
Then Skull Mountain. And then, the biggest of all: Nitro. The only
thing I refused to do on a coaster was go upside down, and Nitro fit the
bill. The huge downward force though… my hair is buzzed, and it was
still windblown. And that is why it was my best trip ever.
